Ok so my interpretation is that he was talking to himself, basically ordering himself to speak. The heartbreaking part here is that it’s delayed. I mean look at this scene. Even tho Beerus is standing up to share this last moment, he isn’t facing his brother. When Champa calls out to him he only turns his head slightly, giving the slightest recognition, and immediately turns the other way again. Judging by Beerus’ reaction to Whis’ comment earlier, he doesn’t wanna show any emotional vulnerability. It’s like he tries very hard not to lose face in this last scene. But as a consequence of that, he’s letting the moment pass, he won’t let it get to him. It’s like he is in his own head the whole time but when he finally manages to start to make himself speak Champa is gone.
Yeah so Goku’s zen form that had even the GoD’s freaked out was pretty great, but can we talk about how upset Beerus was before that when he thought Goku had been vaporized?
And then how relieved he looked when they figured out Goku was still alive?
Even if he freaked out afterwards over Goku’s Super-Ultra-Zen-Instinct form or whatever, it’s still really nice to see hints that cranky cat god might actually care about Goku as more than just “That strong mortal I use to win fights for me.”
Atta-boy Goku, you friendship the heck out of that cat.
Also bonus everyone else not even bothering to be surprised that Goku has survived and come back stronger than ever. They know how this show works by now.
