madhattey:

also the preview of Oswald and Jerome is amazing!!!!

It’s such a huge contrast to season 2 where Oswald was fixed to be completely sane, and here we get to see him rage completely like an animal along side clown boy.

Oswald has been suppressing too many things for too long. He was accused for ā€˜killing’ his father in season 3, for ‘killing’ Martin in the car explosion, and now he’s to blame for Carmine Falcone’s death??????? NOPE. THAT’S ENOUGH. My boy needs to vent, to scream, to cry, to laugh. And Jerome is there to help. And Jerome is there to help him. Good babies.

Agreed. I really hope we get some sort of callback to Fish’s words to him, “Make this city yours or you burn it to the ground.” And I am all for it tbh

coronergrey:

honestly we better get a callback to fish telling oswald ā€œmake this city yours or burn it to the groundā€ next episode what with these promo shots of oswald standing at the front line of an aesthetically apocalyptic tableau of burning debris and car headlights. he looks like a war general. there is nothing more important to me than penguin proving he isn’t a guy to fuck wifh

If Oswald isn’t already playing Sofia since day one, this is gonna be the dumbest and unrealistic plot ever since the ugly Isabella mess.

My theory would have been that Jim and Oswald were gonna team up against her later, if they aren’t already doing it (You’re always one step ahead Oswald. *winks winks*)..

IĀ remember Robin recently saying once again that Jim and Oswald were two sides of the same coin, and she’s obviously using that, playing them both via their weaknesses, aka using the dark side of Jim to manipulate him, telling him sad stories about how his father is a ruthless and cold-hearted person since she was a child, and the soft one with Oswald via the motherly card, saying that she admires her father, and loves Gotham city as much as he does.

I mean… exactly.

This little scheme of making him dumb and innocent then pure evil and intelligent is getting really boring, they can’t throw a character so important like Penguin off the cliff just because they can’t find a plot different from what we’ve seen in the past seasons, everyone trying to dethrone him just a couple of episodes after he’s content with what he has achieved is so season 2 i can’t even.Ā

I want something fresh, something that will slowly cook throughout the entire season just to blow off on the last episodes, i kind of like Sofia, she’s a great character in personality and plans, but come on, i’m sure they could have found a better way than split gotham in three again to make a plot.Ā

They will change his hair back to the usual when he ā€œrealizes thingsā€ and becomes freak clever and proudā„¢ i can bet my life on that.

FINALLY. A POST THAT NAILS IT.

Also I echo @toriirdzpersonal tag… Where tf is Scarecrow!???

I’m gonna be honest, I’d like to think that he’s already playing her, butĀ according to what the cast has said at the last con,Ā it’s a possibility that he wouldĀ let Sofia get to him at first, and that’s the problem to me. I’m not satisfied with this characterization and writing choice at all, even if he ends up ā€œwiningā€ against her, or whatever else.

I don’t know what I’m expecting here from the producers/writers here (not much anymore), but i would have thought it’d be logical that heĀ wouldn’t buy Sofia’s tricks. Especially after what happened with Ed, and even more after having witnessed the whole Liza and Falcone drama back then in season 1.

I’d have thought that the point of the season 3 finale when he tricked and froze Ed was him standing up for himself, but mostly being back at this acting game (throwing a fake tantrum etc…), and his old tricks to get his way.

I don’t know, it’s like every single new plot from that show is pointless, and that they’re basically just recycling the old ones from the early seasons, except that this time they’re kind of meaningless.

They already have butchered EdĀ characterization/character in the past, especially by making him ā€œfallingā€ for Isabella (cause let’s be real, not only it destroyed Nygmobblepot, and that was pretty much the point apparently, but it was also a very stupid way to destroy them, it was ooc for Ed and not credible at all.. the Ed from the early seasons, the one who tricked Jim, the one who was in Arkham and who saw Strange’sĀ ā€œworksā€, would have never bought this. No matter how much he would think that this would so calledĀ ā€œredeemā€ him in some way for Kristen’s murder. He would have been 100% suspicious and superĀ paranoic), so I’m not eager to see another unrealistic plot if that’s the case for what they’re doing/about to do with Oswald.

I also feel like they’re heavily hinting at a possible wedding between Sofia and him (maybe this would be the reason why Ed is gonna mock Oswald in 4×08, according to the spoilers), but I really doubt that Oswald has/will have any sort of romantic feelings for Sofia whatsoever. This.. can’t… be… And we saw that he clearly still has feelings for Ed anyway (he referred to him as hisĀ ā€œone true loveā€ in the past after all, so I don’t think those have vanished into thin air, even after what happened).

About Scarecrow, I think we’re far from being done with him, and that we’re gonna see him again. They’re definitely not good at handling that many different plots at the same time, cause they often never refer to what happened recently when there’s a new episode, so it feels super odd/off every time, as if those would have been forgotten while there’s already some new ones to deal with.

To me what feels even more weird is Oswald not mentioning Ivy..We know that she’s gonna come back later in the season, but yeah.. Like i said, it feels weird when they’re doing that.

What really hits me the most is the obvious statement that they can’t control more than two plots at a time; it’s a new world and a new universe every time a new episode comes and it bothers me beyond words. It’s like taking a cleaning sheet to start all over.

That being said now that i think about it they pretty much sum the intelligence and capacity of Oswald’s power in the actual storyline with only Ed, at least a tiny bit, what happened to the guys that interrupted the Lounge opening? What happened with the knowledge he had from previously encountering Liza and revealing that between a sweet face and ā€œgood intentionsā€ there’s maybe something else? At least Oswald’s innocence with Sofia would be a little believable if he was distracted looking for the ones that interrupted the opening AND sprayed him with the fear toxic, come on, by this time he sure would have known about Scarecrow.

It bothers me that one of the characters with lots of screentime is that manipulated by the own writers.

Okay, does anyone else find it weird that Oswald let Sophia see him weak in 4×05? I’m not referring to him getting misty-eyed at his mother’s goulash, that makes sense because it caught him off-guard and he left right away. I’m talking about him with his leg being in pain.

Think about it. We have never seen Oswald explicitly show that he lets his leg get the better of him. He walks with confidence, despite his limp, even after getting beat half to death and even after he was literally thrown off the docks to die, he neverĀ lets his disability be shown as something that bothers him despite being in constant pain.Ā

Now, he knowsĀ Sophia is up to something. She’sĀ ā€œbuttering him up,ā€ as he says.Ā  He knows she’s a Falcone, and that by itself is reason for suspicion enough and it’s all but confirmed for him when she served him his mother’s goulash. Now, you could argue that he might think Sophia is doing these things genuinely.Ā

The parallels between her actions and Ed’s in season two are incredibly obvious, after all. Ed played & sang Gertude’s song to Oswald, Sophia serves him Gertude’s iconic dish. Ed nursed Oswald back to health after being shot, Sophia helps Oswald with his leg pain. It’s clear why Sophia’s manipulation would work, we’ve already seen that Oswald is strongly affected by the emotional impact of actions along these lines; that’s not my point.

My point is: the thing that sticks out to me is that even with this parallel, with Ed, Oswald refused to show his physical weaknesses while healing. He never complained about his shoulder hurting from the bullet wound, and he certainty never complained about his leg even when on the brink of death. Oswald was certainty emotionally weak then, his mother had just been murdered and with Ed pulling up memories with the music. He still didn’t show any sort of physical weakness, not with being shot and certainty not with his leg.Ā Doesn’t it seem a bit suspicious that Oswald would let Sophia, a woman he already suspects is up to something (good or bad, it doesn’t matter), see his weakness with his leg, a physical malady that he’s handled hiding for years without problem?Ā He’s hid it even upon the brink of death, and yet he’s stronger now than ever, more powerful than he was even as mayor, and he shows this weakness to a woman he suspects?

I could be overthinking this, of course, and end up being proven wrong in the next few episodes. But the only conclusion that makes sense to me based solely on the aired episodes so far is that Oswald choseĀ to show Sophia that weakness to see how she’d respond, maybe to test her intentions or to see how much information about him she knows. It just seems like this is a weakness that Oswald wouldn’t show just accidentally, Oswald has always been smart at playing people and it makes total sense to me that he’s trying to feel her out with something like this.Ā

Yess!!!!
