Gotham recap: jealousy between Ed and Butch

#i so love who’s oswald’s favorite competition #(when butch gets jealous he gets sad -’ how can i make oswald notice and appreciate me???’) #(the red hood plan is not a great answer to this question but the instinct behind it isn’t half bad) #(butch is a pretty emotional stable guy all told)

#(when ed gets jealous he gets bitter and obsessive – ‘how can i destroy butch for all time’) #(between this and doughtry ed really should be able to understand oswald’s reaction to isabella) #(they’re so alike honestly)

In the words of a supportive anon: “Haters gonna hate. Fuck em”.

This ones for you, Ozzie. You’ve been betrayed by so many and beat down by the world. And yet you still find a way to hold your head up high. 💜💜💜

Oh and everyone has my full permission to use these two gifs (even without credit/sourcing). See someone hating on Oswald? Perfect reaction gif.

nygmobbleblog:

I’ve just had a revelation

So I’ve seen a few posts lately wondering whatever happened to the origami penguin Ed gave Oswald in Arkham. Like everyone else, I want to believe that Oswald held onto it.

Problem is, I’ve tried to hold onto origami figurines, and it’s really fucking hard. Especially if it’s special to you and you don’t want it to get messed up. Eventually you move around, it gets moved from place to place, it gets torn and wrinkled and soft and impossible to preserve just on its own. So yeah, he probably wouldn’t have been able to hold onto it for long.

NOW ONTO MY REALIZATION.

Ed’s puzzle box.

The puzzle box Oswald gave him that no other man can solve but Ed solved in 0.2 seconds.

The puzzle box that I assume, based on that information, Ed did not keep.

Because honestly, why would he? Sentiment, maybe. But it would be incredibly unsatisfying to keep a puzzle like that once you’ve already solved it in 0.2 seconds. Especially when you’re Edward Nygma.

So what if Oswald kept it? More importantly, what if Oswald kept the origami penguin inside of it?

He would never have to worry about anyone finding out about his sentimentality, because no one can solve the puzzle box especially not the idiot goons with which he surrounds himself.

Except Ed. Which, in and of itself is a really beautiful metaphor.

Like, just imagine Ed breaks into Oswald’s house or office to plant some sort of trap, and he finds the puzzle box from all those years ago, and he opens it up and there’s this tiny, old, delicate wrapping paper penguin lovingly tucked right inside.

Ed: “Oswald, I’m gonna shoot you.”

Oswald: (sighs) “Alright then, go ahead.”

Ed: “
”

Oswald: “Well
?”

Ed: “
Any- any last words?”

Oswald: “This again?”

Ed: “I thought maybe this time you’d have something to say.”

Oswald: “No.”

Ed: “Are you sure?”

Oswald: “Yes.”

Ed: “Seems strange not to have any last words
”

Oswald: “You want last words, Ed? Get. On. With. It.”

Ed: “Fine, have it your way! Goodbye, Oswald.”

Oswald: “
”

Ed: “
”

Oswald: “You know you have to pull the trigger for this to work, right?”

Ed: “I know what I’m doing, Oswald!”

Oswald: “Just checking, since you’re not smart anymore-”

Ed: (dramatic gasp)

Ed throws his gun at Oswald and it squeaks upon hitting his chest and landing on the floor.

Oswald: “
”

Ed: “
”

Oswald: “
”

Ed: “
You win this round, Oswald. But I’ll be back. And when I return, I will kill you.”

Oswald: “What will your weapon of choice be next time, a water pistol?”

I know you, Ed. I may be driven by my emotions, but you are driven by something much more predictable

oh SNAP!

#!!! #he had just as little say in falling for isabella as in taking oswald back to the pier #he falls back hard on his compulsions when he can’t process things logically/emotionally
#and both these situations were confusing and overwhelming as hell

#(
this does lead credence to the idea that he might have ended up killing her eventually) #consciously he called it a second chance but compulsively he might have wound up trying to fill in the blanks) #(after he kills kristen he processes it as her death being the catalyst for the birth of his new identity) #(
sound familiar??)
