1×14 The Fearsome Dr. Crane

Don’t worry Os, we’re confused, too.

Hes not confused he knows what hes talking about. Maroni’s mashing up two proverbs as a pun and a back handed compliment: A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush + Possession is nine tenths of the law.

Oswalds reaction is haha yeah ya cock but hes also starting to realise Maroni’s onto him and isn’t really as stupid as he thinks. This is the same scene where right after Fish rings and tells Maroni Oswald is Falcone’s plant. Oswald then pretends hes not listening to the conversion by bugging a waiter about a smudge on a knife instead but he realises somethings going on too. Maroni Asks Oswald to go with him out of town “to see a guy about a thing” and Oswald tries to get out of it but he cant, this is what leads to the fall out between him and Maroni.

( This is a big intimidation / scare tacit because its damn obvious there is no guy with a thing, Maroni is pushing Oswald into a corner where he has to ‘out’ himself as a rat, proving that no hes not the big dumb gorilla Oswald takes him for and Oswald’s starting to see it. He tries to get one up on Maroni by taking his gun to kill him but Maroni anticipated that too. Thats why Maroni actually showed him the gun and where it was located just before they entered the cabin )

Basically Oswald slipped up by telling Maroni he sized the club in the brazen way he did. Maroni is the one who called Oswald out on his hubris which is really Oswald’s biggest weakness.

P much: Oswald’s a cocky little smart ass. He always considers himself smarter than / above everyone else and while hes USUALLY right his arrogance can be exploited. This was done to show that Oswald might be a grand chess master but hes not faultless. It should have set up Season 2 but LOL it all went to hell bc the writers wanted to mix things up presumably after getting bad reviews and dropped / changed a ton of shit to take Gotham from the relatively satisfying crime drama / batman prelude it was to some other rushed, awkward premature ‘superhero’ bullshit it is now.

( Note in particular the references to Indian hill in s1, especially Oswald’s knowledge of it,  that don’t actually carry on into s2 and seem to rather change into something else entirely and/or aren’t really visited again or explained. )

I am legitimately bummed that they’re possibly going this route… I want Oswald happy of course, and I want him to have a relationship but… with Ed. Life only gives you one true love. And to have him having never had these feeling to having them for Ed, to just someone new is… I don’t Os to get the Gordon love life treatment. Nygmobblepot was deeper and slower burning and… I just don’t see how it will be so easily replaced? And I personally don’t want it replaced. :(

And this whole “he thought love was a weakness, it changes how
he will think” stuff kind of pisses me off because THAT WAS HIS WHOLE
SEASON THREE STORY LINE WITH ED?! I hate to inform Gotham, because lord
knows they love repeating storylines every season, but repeated
storylines begin to lose impact.

p r e a c h.

listen: nygmobblepot was and still is special, no matter how many love interests they give ed or oswald, they will never be the same as when they are together. oswald literally said ed is his one true love. ed and oswald both said about each other ‘he’s the only one’ like. these two are soulmates. they are meant to be. their relationship was being built up since the very first episode of the entire show, with so many subtle/not so subtle parallels and hints that the writers purposely put there.

you know what’s making it even worse is that we have absolutely no closure to the romance storyline and they are ALREADY giving them love interests (merely speculation but watch ed and lee become a thing), like we don’t know if oswald still loves ed, we don’t know if ed loves oswald, we don’t know what the entire 3×15 was about, we literally have no explanations to anything and they are already jumping to another romance storyline/s and giving the two/one of them a love interest. this is truly the worst direction they could have possibly taken with them. not giving any closure to their romance storyline, beyond the friends/enemies thing, and instead giving them other love interests.

and yes this season in general does look like it’s just made up of repeated storylines. from what i’ve read so far, it looks like we have oswald having it all and being the king of gotham at the beginning and then losing everything again, ed struggling with an ‘identity crisis’, sofia falcone = valerie vale 2.0, jim being ‘dark’

literally which one of these haven’t we seen already

anyway, all that being said there IS a tiny chance that they could use him (or her
which is a whole other level of n o) as a lazy plot device to get ed jealous and have nygmobblepot back together

not exactly the Quality storyline i was hoping they’d get but it’s better than nothing lmao

why would ya even let that sellout in here at all? because he remains the only one of our villainous brethren who I can converse with on an equal level. after all, with whom can I discuss the newest michelangelo exhibit at the gotham met? or the nuances of placido’s latest performance? This was probably my favorite outfit of our snazzy murder-bird.

I preferred when the outfits were more subtle –  just a suggestion of oddness with the tie, or the shape of the lapel.  Just a hint that he had ideas above his station in little details in the colour or texture of the fabric.  Ostensibly just like the other gangsters in his suit and coat, but lots of little warning signals right there, hiding in plain sight.

To Fish.

#he has so much capacity for love and forgiveness in him

Oh, Ozzie. He is too precious.

It makes me wonder so much about their relationship. It looks like they had kind of a love/hate relationship? Was so surprised to hear him say that. Also at Butch’s response considering how loyal he was to Fish.

All I know for sure is that I wouldn’t have forgiven Fish so easily. Lol

Jim Gordon’s love life is about as complicated as the politics of Gotham City. And although Lee (Morena Baccarin) surely won’t stay out of Gotham for long, her decision to leave town in the season 3 finale is one of many factors that will see Jim (Ben McKenzie) going down a “dark path” when the show returns. Another factor? Jim’s career.

“We’re going to see Jim make, in some ways, big steps toward I guess what you would call the commissionership,” executive producer John Stephens tells EW. “But also we’re going to see Jim, in his quest to save the city, cross different ethical lines than he ever did before. It’s going to bring him to an ethical nadir that we haven’t seen him at, and it’s going to be told through the context of a relationship that he has with Sofia Falcone, the daughter of Don Falcone, who’s played by Crystal Reed this year. And that’s going to be a really compelling and interesting relationship.”

EW has an exclusive first look at Gordon’s latest potential love interest above.

?????

I don’t see how Carmine would ever be on board with this.

I can only assume – as Alfred might say – that they’re going to stitch Jim up nicely.

Hopefully it ends quick. With Carmine smacking the heck out of Jim. Just
.ugh.
