The Beal Ciphers

More than a hundred years ago, a small pamphlet was published titled “The Beale Papers,” which contained three cipher texts. The mysterious codes supposedly gave directions to a treasure buried in a secret location in Bedford County, Virginia in the 1820s.

According to the story in that pamphlet a man by the name of Thomas J. Beale and 30 other men came across  treasure in a mine located to the north of Santa Fe.They transported the treasure to Bedford County, and buried it in a secure location. Beale then wrote three encoded letters: one giving the exact location of the treasure, a second giving its detailed description, and a third giving the names and contact information of the 30 partners. He placed them in an iron box and gave them to a trusted friend (he was instructed to only open the box if Beal and his friends were unable to return from a journey they had set out on) —the local innkeeper named Robert Morriss —before disappearing, never to be seen again.

2 out of the 3 ciphers remain un-cracked to this day. Morriss tried to decode the ciphers but was unsuccessful so he passed it onto a friend (un-named) who spent years working on them. He was only able to decode one of them using The Declaration of Independence as a key. The decoded cipher read:

“The first deposit consisted of ten hundred and fourteen pounds of gold, and thirty-eight hundred and twelve pounds of silver, deposited Nov. eighteen nineteen. The second was made Dec. eighteen twenty-one, and consisted of nineteen hundred and seven pounds of gold, and twelve hundred and eighty-eight of silver; also jewels, obtained in St. Louis in exchange for silver to save transportation, and valued at thirteen thousand dollars.”

2 of the ciphers remain un-cracked.They have been published as “The Beal Papers” so anyone who wants can try to decode them. While some will never be swayed in their resolve to find the treasure, some experts consider the Beale ciphers to be an elaborate hoax.

Roll Clouds

Roll clouds are truly a sight to behold! Some have described these clouds as looking like toppled tornadoes. These types of arcus clouds are typically associated with thunderstorms.

Not to be confused with the similar shelf cloud, these rarities of nature occur when air temperatures invert and cause the warm air to be on top of the cool air. Wind then changes speed and direction and causes a rolling effect of these cylinder-type clouds.

Roll clouds need just the right amount of moisture to occur. The storm winds actually push the clouds into a tubular shape, which moves them ahead of the storm. They look like a giant rolling pin across the sky!

The effects of being submerged in water on the hands of human corpses.

Twenty-four hours or so after being submerged a body will display extensive “washerwoman” wrinkling of the hands, where the upper skin layers become totally waterlogged. After three days the skin begins to detach and is often fed on by fish and other water-dwelling creatures. In a week to ten days the skin may slip away entirely, leaving swathes of exposed musculature on the body. At this point, delayed decomposition sets in and the body begins to bloat, with algae growth and predation accelerating the process.

The science of the smell of rain!

After >20 long days of little to no rain, Ireland has welcomed back its familiar friend and with it, the amazing ‘it’s finally raining’ smell.

This smell, which is typically associated with rainfall after a dry period, is termed Petrichor; from the Greek words ‘petra’ meaning stone and ‘ichor’ which refers to the golden fluid that was said to flow through the veins of the gods and the immortals in Greek Mythology.

Microbursts are very seldom talked about, despite the fact that they pack all the punch of a tornado and have been known to push passenger jets right out of the sky, causing several fatal crashes over the years. A microburst is a sudden and very powerful downdraft of wind, and they are highly localised. They are commonly found in thunderstorms and involve a powerful downdraft of wind being pushed against the ground and then bursting out in all directions, creating sudden and powerful gales that can reach speeds of 150mph.

As seen in the video, the storm goes from what looks like an average storm to what could easily be mistaken for a large tornado, all in a matter of seconds. Perhaps the most unnerving part is at 0:28, where the microburst can clearly be seen advancing towards the cameraman, before easily ripping a large tree in half.

July 12 is National Different Coloured Eyes Day. The difference in colouration of the iris is called heterochromia iridum or heterochromia iridis. In complete heterochromia, one iris is a different colour from the other. In sectoral heterochromia, part of one iris is a different colour from its remainder. In central heterochromia, there is a ring around the pupil or possibly spikes of different colours radiating from the pupil. 

Since I am obsessed with eye colours in general, heterochromia in specific, and losing my mind whenever I spot it in a wolf’s iris, I’m going to post some heterochromia wolves. Enjoy!

I genuinely do not understand this unrelenting insistence that we compare every horrendous thing the United States does to the Holocaust, when there are much better comparisons to be made to
well, the United fucking States. 

The United States has a long, sordid history of separating families: The Transatlantic Slave Trade and the families impacted by slavery for generations after being stolen from their homes and sold to the highest bidder, for one. The Bureau of Indian Affairs boarding schools, where Native children were ripped from their families in order to have their language, culture, and beliefs stamped out of them through forced assimilation and conversion to Christianity, for another. 

The United States has an awful history of putting people in detention centres: Japanese and Native Alaskan internment camps during WWII, Fort Cass, Fort Snell, and other Native American internment camps that Indigenous Peoples were forced into throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, not even to mention Guantanamo Bay, and the camps so-called dissidents in the places like the Philippines, Vietnam, and other nations Americans had occupied were put into.

The United States has always been horrible to its immigrants, specifically non-white and/or non-Christian refugees. My own grandfather, an immigrant form India, couldn’t become a citizen of the United States despite being a college lecturer and the spouse of a US citizen due to Asian Exclusion, and had to continuously enrol in university courses he never actually took despite the fact that he was teaching them, just to stay in the country on a student visa. The one truly valid comparison to the Holocaust era you could make would be to the United States turning away Jewish refugees from Nazi-occupied Europe aboard the St Louis and sending them back to their deaths because that same law used to keep my grandfather from becoming a citizen had been put in place specifically to keep more Jews and Asians from coming into the country.

Like, the United States is not “becoming Nazi Germany” all of a sudden. This is not some aberrant “UnAmerican” behaviour. This is the United States being the United States, doing what the U.S. has always done from the moment of its inception. 

Also, as one of my FB friends said on this topic recently: “Nazi Germany was not famous for cruelty toward asylum seekers, it was famous for making millions of asylum seekers and then murdering millions including many from my family.”

There is no good reason to constantly trot out bad Holocaust comparisons when we know damn well this is the same inhumane bullshit America was fucking built on. Hitler, Nazis, and The Holocaust are not just shorthand for “the government being really bad.” It was a specific atrocity that devastated the Jewish and Romani communities of this world, and you don’t need to constantly devalue it and re-traumatise Jews and Roma over and over again when you can just as easily condemn the heinous way asylum seekers at the US border are being treated by saying the United States is still in the business of systematic oppression and has not learnt anything from its own appalling history. 

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: non-Romani goyim don’t get to drag out the proverbial corpses of our people and use them in a macabre puppet show in order to give their issues weight.

We have explained this a million times over: Only Jews and Roma were target for total annihilation by the Nazis, and are therefore the only groups who have intergenerational trauma related to the holocaust. Some LGBTQ and Disabled people certainly were targeted (though not in the same way), but there plenty of individuals fitting that description who weren’t at all. In fact, there were gay and disabled people in Hitler’s inner circle, so to suggest members of those groups outside of Jewish or Romani contexts are entitled to reference the Holocaust like we do is really in poor taste.

Basically, with disabled and LGBTQ individuals who were not Jewish or Romani, there were plenty of instances where people just just chose to overlook it. However, if an LGBTQ and/or disabled person was Jewish or Romani, there was no looking the other way; they were killed. 

Please stop inserting yourselves into our trauma, kthanksbai.
