Basically Sock is a normal dude living his every day life wishing he could have friends when he stumbles into a presentation at a college near his house for this groundbreaking new technology called a SQUIP, a pill-shaped supercomputer that implants in your brain and helps you achieve your lifeās goals. Mephistopheles, the creator, is at the college looking for volunteers to test the technology and Sock is like I need this, but because heās not 18 he legally canāt sign up to participate. So he ends up breaking into Mephistophelesā office to basically beg him for a Squip and Meph, impressed by his moxie, decides to give him one under the radar.
However, Sockās Squipāwho looks like Ted Bundyāmalfunctions and ends up twisting together Sockās two primary goals of killing things, and wanting to make a friend. It identifies Jonathan as the optimum target for a friend.
Eventually Meph realizes something is off, but Sock isnāt willing to give up his Squip and he canāt tell anyone about it because he illegally gave a minor this untested technology. Itās a big mess.
