The Beal Ciphers

More than a hundred years ago, a small pamphlet was published titled “The Beale Papers,” which contained three cipher texts. The mysterious codes supposedly gave directions to a treasure buried in a secret location in Bedford County, Virginia in the 1820s.

According to the story in that pamphlet a man by the name of Thomas J. Beale and 30 other men came across  treasure in a mine located to the north of Santa Fe.They transported the treasure to Bedford County, and buried it in a secure location. Beale then wrote three encoded letters: one giving the exact location of the treasure, a second giving its detailed description, and a third giving the names and contact information of the 30 partners. He placed them in an iron box and gave them to a trusted friend (he was instructed to only open the box if Beal and his friends were unable to return from a journey they had set out on) —the local innkeeper named Robert Morriss —before disappearing, never to be seen again.

2 out of the 3 ciphers remain un-cracked to this day. Morriss tried to decode the ciphers but was unsuccessful so he passed it onto a friend (un-named) who spent years working on them. He was only able to decode one of them using The Declaration of Independence as a key. The decoded cipher read:

“The first deposit consisted of ten hundred and fourteen pounds of gold, and thirty-eight hundred and twelve pounds of silver, deposited Nov. eighteen nineteen. The second was made Dec. eighteen twenty-one, and consisted of nineteen hundred and seven pounds of gold, and twelve hundred and eighty-eight of silver; also jewels, obtained in St. Louis in exchange for silver to save transportation, and valued at thirteen thousand dollars.”

2 of the ciphers remain un-cracked.They have been published as “The Beal Papers” so anyone who wants can try to decode them. While some will never be swayed in their resolve to find the treasure, some experts consider the Beale ciphers to be an elaborate hoax.

Toxic Lady

Gloria Ramirez was a housewife from California whose cause of death remains a mystery to this day.

At approximately 8:15 p.m. on the evening of February 19, 1994, Gloria was rushed into ER after affects of her cervical cancer had caused her to have an abnormal heart rate and breathing difficulties. Staff immediately injected her with several drugs: diazepam, midazolam, and lorazepam. This sedated her, but medics noticed that she was not responding to the drugs and her condition was worsening. That’s when a nurse took bloods from her arm and noticed a smell of Ammonia coming from the tube.

The nurse passed the test tube to a doctor who noticed strange particles floating around in the blood. They were “unlike anything” he had ever seen. Furthermore, staff noted that there was a fruity, garlic-like smell coming from her mouth and that her skin was excessively greasy. After this, nurses started fainting and doctors had to leave the room because they felt so ill. Nobody knew what was happening, only that Gloria’s body was emitting a foul-smelling odour that seemed to be making everybody nauseous. The staff evacuated all emergency room patients to the parking lot outside the hospital. Overall, 23 people became ill and 5 were hospitalised.

At 8:50 p.m., Gloria Ramirez was pronounced dead. She had died from kidney failure, but to this day nobody knows what caused her strange condition or if it played a part in her unusual death.

The story is even weirder, and also the ideas of what happened. Some men said that it must have been mass hysteria in the nurses even though one of them is now partly paralyzed in a leg and has problems with her head hurting from time to time.

One of the common ideas is that there was a secret meth lab going on in the building (which apparently was a thing in the area. WTF?) AND THEY PUT IN A THING OF CHEMICALS BY ACCIDENT *insert wordless screaming here*

So, guys. I’m here on my phone with my mom who is watching La Rosa Da Guadalupe and she catches that movement in the corner. You can see something white passing by.

I recorded the scene with my phone and turned it into a gif. What is it? A cat? A rabbit? Mom finds it strange cause there were no animals whatsoever that appeared in the ep. We’re joking that it’s a paranormal entity the camera captured. Lol.

The Jian Seng was found in 2006 in Australian waters. It was inoperable, had no crew, and sported a broken tow rope. No damage or obvious signs of piracy were evident. What was most baffling, however, was that the ship was apparently unregistered, nobody had reported a large missing ship that had broken free of its tow, and nobody claimed the ship when it was found.

Those twitter posts and theories are terrifying. So basically a solar storm sent this message to people at randoma and thus people recieved this SOS alert from a plane that is still missing

WTF. They literally said ‘They are not human’

Okay, so I just spent the last hour reading the whole thread on twitter about this. And holy shit dude it is such a wild ride. It’s scary af. Here’s a better summary for those of you curious. Warning not for the faint of heart, or really anyome scared easily, probably. Lol

Also, people reading about the thread on twitter or having heard about all this elsewhere such as facebook, have supposedly reported receiving strange texts and voice mails.

There’s a limit on photos, urghhh, so here is what someone tweeted:

Large, mysterious “jelly blobs” have popped up on the coast of Norway. They range about three feet in diameter, and scientists aren’t quite sure what they are yet. The main hypothesis is an egg mass that hasn’t been identified before, specifically that of a squid, as the dark streak running through them could be squid ink.

In 1587, Raleigh dispatched a new group of 115 colonists to establish a colony on Chesapeake Bay. They were led by John White, an artist and friend of Raleigh who had accompanied the previous expeditions to Roanoke. Shortly thereafter, colonist George Howe was killed by a native while searching alone for crabs in Albemarle Sound. Fearing for their lives, the colonists persuaded Governor White to return to England to explain the colony’s desperate situation and ask for help. White sailed for England in late 1587, although crossing the Atlantic at that time of year was a considerable risk. Because of the continuing war with Spain, White was unable to mount another resupply attempt for an additional three years. He finally gained passage on a privateering expedition that agreed to stop off at Roanoke on the way back from the Caribbean. White landed on August 18, 1590, but found the settlement deserted. The only clue was the word “CROATOAN” carved into a post of the fence around the village. All the houses and fortifications had been dismantled, which meant that their departure had not been hurried. Before he had left the colony, White instructed them that, if anything happened to them, they should carve a Maltese cross on a tree nearby, indicating that their absence had been forced. There was no cross, and White took this to mean that they had moved to Croatoan Island (now known as Hatteras Island), but he was unable to conduct a search. The end of the 1587 colony is unrecorded, leading to the colony being referred to as the “Lost colony”, with multiple hypotheses existing as to the fate of the colonists. X

I first heard about this while watching Destination America’s, ‘Terror in the Woods’. One of the stories was about a woman’s husband who claimed to have encountered a werewolf and she commented how maybe that was what could have happened to the Lost Colony. Interested, I just had to read about this incident.

I just love when my fascination with the paranormal makes me learn about real historical events.

31 Days of Halloween: Day 10 – Croatoan

Many of us already know a little bit about the Croatoan mystery, and how it connects to the chilling story of the lost colony of Roanoke Island.  

It was settled in 1587 and was already set to become famous when Virginia Dare was born on the 18th of August, the first English child to be born on American soil.  The colony was near what was once called Croatoan Island, now called Cape Hatteras.  John White, the governor, sailed away to England and when he returned after three years, found the entire settlement deserted.  There was no sign of the 90 men, 17 women, and 11 children that had lived there, nor any sign of a struggle, a battle, or a kidnapping. 

All that was left were two graves an, carved into a post on a fort, the word “Croatoan”.

That’s where the story seems to end, at least most versions of it, but only very recently did I read several articles mentioning the word “croatoan” in connection with other disappearances and deaths.

A few days before his death, Edgar Allen Poe was brought to his death bed, delirious, whispering the word “croatoan” again and again.

The same word was found scribbled in the journal of Amelia Earhart after her disappearance in 1937.

The word was found carved into the post of the bed that horror writer Ambrose Bierce slept in just before he vanished in Mexico in 1913.

The word was scratched on the wall of the cell that notorious stagecoach robber Black Bart inhabited before he was released from prison in 1888, only to disappear right afterward.

Perhaps most disturbing is its appearance on the last page of the logbook of the ship Carroll A. Deering when it ran aground in 1921 with no one aboard, on – wait for it – Cape Hatteras.  Croatoan Island.
