I havenāt done an update on Net Neutrality in a while as I was trying to find a reasonableĀ ānext stepā, especially since itās been out of theĀ ānews cycleā for a bit. Well, I have some good news.Ā
According to the senator (minority leader Chuck Schumer) from New York, they now have a total of 50 votes for a Senate resolution of disapproval that would restore the Open Internet Order of 2015 and deliver a stiff rebuke to Ajit Pai and other Republican members of the FCC. It would also prevent the agency from passing a similar measure in the future, all but guaranteeing Net Neutrality is permanently preserved
Whatās stopping them now? They need just ONE more Republican and they have less than 30 days to do it.
So goes the next actionable step. You have to contact your senators and get them to suppose the Congressional Review ofĀ āthe Open Internet Order of 2015ā³.Ā
2) Via https://resist.bot/Ā – you can write to Congress using this site orĀ Text RESIST to Resistbot on Telegram, Messenger, or to 50409 on SMS. By providing basic information, you can write your Senator to move forward.
Now, if you got a Democratic Senator, push them on to find that one Republican Senator. If you got a Republican Senator, encourage them to reconsider their stance on Net Neutrality.Ā
We just need ONE RepublicanĀ Senator and we have less than 30 days to do so.Ā
I really donāt even have to say it. Just keep trying, we might manage to slip a miracle in!
weāve only got 20 days until the repeal of net neutrality goes into effect! do not forget about this issue! it will affect every single person who uses tumblr and other social media!
Now, there is a bill that would reverse the FCCās decision to repeal net neutrality. We only need one more vote to make it happen! Get to calling your senators, folks! Donāt let these greedy, laizzes-faire assholes take away the web that connects us all, provides coping mechanisms, and platforms that inform the people.
IT STILL HAS TO GO TO CONGRESS GUYS PLEASE CONTACT YOUR CONGRESSMAN!!!!
http://contactingcongress.org makes it very easy to find a variety of ways that you can contact your local reps as well as information about them and their stance on various things.
Thereās a lot of big, wordy articles going around tumblr right now, and theyāre all great. But I wanted to make a mastpost of sorts of all the actions you can take and sites/bots that are here to help.
battleforthenetĀ – The main hub for all things net neutrality. Fill out a form in seconds to e-mail your rep, or enter your phone number and a prerecorded message will call you, tell you exactly what to do and provide a script before connecting you with your representative. You can also set up a daily call.
Verizon ProtestsĀ – Protests are happening at Verizon stores across the country on Dec 14th.Ā
5 callsĀ – This site is my favorite for calls. They provide a script and directions for calling the FCC, senators, and local state rep.Ā
ResistbotĀ – A phenominal service for those who cannot call, this bot will contact your rep on your behalf. However, every time I try to use it, they are busy.
Many of you are hitting the same roadblock I am: Mailboxes are full. So what do we do at that point? We send letters. Go to WhoIsMyRepresentative.com and enter your zip code to find addresses for your senators and house reps. You can use the phone script from the sites above, or compose your own note, or simply writeĀ āI am your constituent and I want you to fight to keep net neutrality.ā
I know a lot of this is very overwhelming and hopefully this makes things easy and straightforward. You can send an e-mail, make 4 phone calls, and write a letter in less than 10 minutes. Please take the time to do so.Ā
Very, very important. Please take 5 minutes out of your day and speak up.
Hereās a casual reminder that the repeal of Net Neutrality officially goes into affect on April 23rd. We still have time to do something, we only need ONE more vote from the Senate to restore Net Neutrality, so please keep calling your representatives and put pressure on them to vote against the FCCās repeal
Guys we got a lot going on political wise now but this one is one issue that should have been cut and dry and done.
Call your rep ASAP so they donāt forget to do this. Probably mention this would be the easiest legislation they would ever pass and get done
guys this is happening tomorrow and this looks like once itās gone it will be a bitch and a half to get back CALL YOUR SENATORS PLEASE
Reblog the hell out of this please
Once the FCC officially rescinds Net Neutrality on Thursday, thereās a 60 day lag period where Congress can vote to not allow it to pass through. Basically if nothing is done, Net Neutrality will expire right around April 23rd. Thereās a few big hurdles here still (need 51 votes in the Senate and a majority in the House, with enough to overturn a presidential veto) BUT during this time period the AGs of the states that have decided to sue the FCC plan to refile their lawsuit and begin litigation processes.
SO, what can we do?
CALL YOU CONGRESSPEOPLE!Ā This website will help you find out who you need to call. Start with your Senators, they will need to do something first and right now there appears to be 50 votes for stopping the full rescinding of Net Neutrality so we currently only need to flip one more to get that started. If you have a Senator or Rep who has already committed to voting for legislation to reinstate NN, still call or email and thank them for their support. This helps keep them aware of what their constituents actually want.Ā
If you need a good script, help finding out who to call, or just more information in general, 5 Calls is a great site where everything is coordinated together with who call and what to say. They currently have scripts up for a number of different issues on-going in Congress and it sounds like theyāre prepping scripts for NN for tomorrow.
Canāt do phone calls? I understand, hereās an article that outlines how to fax and write letters to your Congress member through your text app. I know this route is tempting for all, but know that phone calls have been shown to be the single best option for change, so if you are able, please call first!
Find out if your state is among those that are planning to file suit against the FCC to try to get the ruling overturned. These states will have to refile within 10 days of the rescinding (Whatās suppose to happen Thursday) so keep an eye on it. Call you AGās office and either ask them if they plan to support the suit OR thank them for supporting it and encourage them to continue working for Neutrality.
Its important to remember that there will continue to be 10 million other things that feel just as pressing as this issue over the next 60 days. Thatās how this administration works, its everything all at once because hopefully we canāt handle it all. So if you have a few minutes to spare for this (or any of the other important and pending issues listed on 5 Calls, like HR620 or a Clean DREAM Act), consider calling your Congress Member, using Resistbot to contact them, or EFF Action to email them.
When I saw this post on my dash, it kept disappearing every time the site finished loading. It had nothing to do with my blacklist extension, all evidence of this post on my dash vanished. I had to go to the blog of the person Iām reblogging it from DIRECTLY.
If you can see this post at all, even if itās for a split second, try and like it and reblog it! Donāt let this post be hidden!
We put up a good fightā¦but now we only have 60 days to turn this around. There is still ONE thing we can all do!!!!!Ā
Thereās something called the Congressional Review Act (CRA) that can be used to stop the FCC. We just need ONE MORE VOTE to win the Senate!!!Ā
For those who missed my last giant post a few months ago, last year, the FCC voted to repeal the Obama regulations designed to protect a fair and open internet. If these regulations are knocked down, providers like Comcast, AT&T, and VerizonĀ will have EVERY RIGHT to slow down internet speeds to those who arenāt on their more expensive plans. Even further, they have the power to censor and regulate what we see online.Ā MOREĀ further, theyād even have the power to slow down competitorsā streaming speeds, like Netflix, to make their own services more appealing. THIS SHIT IS NOT RIGHT!!!!!Ā
First thing you can do is to GET OFF YOUR ASS (OR ON IT IF YOUāRE AT A COMPUTERā¦) and take 20 seconds to sign this!!!! Second thing is to SHARE THIS CAMPAIGN WITH EVERYONE!!!
Thereās going to be a huge protest on Feb 27th that Iāll be taking part in. The above link goes into detail on what YOU can do on that day. Please guys. Donāt just sit there and let this happen. THIS IS OUR LAST CHANCE! THIS IS OUR INTERNET!!!! NOW FUCKING DO SOMETHING!!!!
Just voted now! TAKES ONLY 5 SECONDS, SAVE NET NEUTRALITY! Please!
One thing Iāve noticed about this thing is that a lot of people think āoh since this is really important, lots of people will be doing this, so Iām not going to bother.ā
PLEASE BOTHER!!!!! MINDSETS LIKE THIS CAN AND WILL STAND IN THE WAY OF WINNING BACK OUR RIGHTS!!!!!!!!

GUYS, WE CAN DO THISā¦. weāve fought for this before and won TWICE- we can win again!! And this might even be our last battle! Come on, keep trying- keep fighting!
