Fic summary: Oswald Cobblepot, a civilian employee of the GCPD, has his world turned upside down when The Riddler, Gotham City’s latest menace, becomes transfixed with having Oswald serve as his mentor and help guide him into the kind of life Oswald has. (A “morality” swap of Gotham canon, where the “bad guys” and “good guys” exchange places in a timeline based on seasons 1 and 2 of the show.)

Chapter nine summary: Ed and Oswald divulge tales of their past in an effort to understand each other better. Emotional intimacy grows as does the physical aspect with a first kiss finally being shared.

I know, I know, we posted a chapter two days ago but we couldn’t keep this one to ourselves any longer.

As always, the tags are updated every chapter. Forewarning, there is talk about canon-typical violence in this, and aspects of Ed’s childhood are detailed too.

Happy Reading!

[Chapter 9 marks the beginning of Ed and Oswald’s relationship, and the end of the progression/“slow burn” section of the plot, in case anyone was waiting to begin reading until that point was reached.]

You wanna talk ego, Riddler?

“Projection is a psychological defense mechanism in which individuals attribute characteristics they find unacceptable in themselves to another person.”

Watching season 3, I find it interesting how when Ed was torturing Butch and Tabitha, he seemed annoyed with Oswald. Saying that he could be ‘self centered.’ And yes, if u ask me, Oswald can be narcisstic. Yet, the funny thing is that Ed can be too, I think. I mean he does think himself superior to others, especially intellectually, and constantly does want to be in the spotlight and recognition.

It’s amazing how similar Oswald and Ed are to one another. Things Ed says he dislikes in Oswald are pretty much present in him too.
