Way too many parents need to learn the difference between âa child being disrespectfulâ and âa human person expressing an opinion that differs from theirsâ
my mom had a nice technique for this. when iâd give her sass, sheâd say, âi donât speak rude, whatâs that in polite-person-ese?â
basically, sheâd encourage me to rephrase my opinion without the attitude. so âUGH, you NEVER let me do ANYTHING!â would (often after quite a bit of bitching and grumbling) turn into âit feels like every time i have a fun idea, you say no, and i just end up sitting around the house.â
and at that point we could troubleshoot like civilized people. she could explain that she didnât want me to go to jimmyâs sleepover because jimmyâs dad creeps her out, and i could suggest maybe i could have andy over instead, and she could say sure, why not call peter and stacy and brianna and have your own party, iâll pop some popcorn and rent a movie, and i could add what if we put up tents in the back yard and have a bonfire and roast marshmallows, and she could laugh and say donât push it.
One failure mode for this technique is that it can turn into âI refuse to deal with you unless you suppress all emotional reactions and discuss things calmly and logically.â
Or, as my dad would say, âGo to your room, stop crying, and come back when youâre ready to have a rational conversation.â
And itâs tricky! Maybe for some kids that would work fine? But what I took from it was âyour emotions are annoying and irrelevant,â which isâŠâŠâŠ not great.
NB: Iâm not saying that @jumpingjacktrash or their mom is wrong! Just that thereâs the potential for that tactic to mutate into something harmful when used by âŠless emotionally adept?⊠people.
a good way to avoid that is to try and let someone know their natural emotional reaction is generally understandable, but that they need to take a breath and then overcome it somewhat so the emotion of the moment isnât able to control them from thinking logically. because you feel a lot better when your emotions are accepted and not disregarded, but you are also able to learn how to subdue them so you can avoid feeling out of control.Â
Persephone is the daughter of Zeus and the harvest goddess Demeter and is the queen of the underworld. Homer describes her as the formidable, venerable majestic princess of the underworld, who carries into effect the curses of men upon the souls of the dead.
She was abducted by Hades, the god of the underworld, infuriating her mother who made the crops wither and the earth barren. Zeus intervened and tried to bring Persephone back to the world of the living; however, Persephone ate the seeds of a pomegranate that Hades had given to her, binding her to him for one third of the year. Thus, it was decided that Persephone spend four months in the underworld and eight months on earth with her mother. The period in the underworld corresponded to the winter season, during which Demeter would make the soils barren due to her grief, while her return marked the start of the spring.(Source)
Could immortality really be achieved? If so, how? One man may know the answer.
Saint Germain is thought to have been born in the late 1600s (there are no official records), but some think he may have even been around during the same time as Jesus Christ.
There have been many accounts of his existence throughout history. He was acquainted with several well known historical figures including: Voltaire, Madame de Pompadour, Casanova, Catherine the Great, King Louis XV, and Anton Mesmer.Â
Saint Germain was known to be very talented in the art and pseudo-science known as alchemy. Allegedly he discovered how to create a Philosopherâs Stone (Harry Potter fan know whatâs up). A Philosopherâs Stone can turn any metal into silver or gold, and could also grant the creator immortality. He claimed to be able to fuse diamonds together and to make pearls grow to enormous sizes.
Most recently, there was a claim in the 1970s by a Parisian man named Richard Chanfray that he was the famous count. Chanfray committed suicide in 1983. Or did he fake his death to throw us off?
Some hikers also met a mysterious man who had a striking resemblance to Saint Germain on a mountain in California. The man told them stories about Nero and Dante, as if he had known them.
Even if this isnât true why would so many men would want to impersonate one man who is virtually unknown to history?
to withdraw oneâs feelings of attachment from (a person, idea, or object), as in anticipation of a future loss:Â He decathected from her in order to cope with her impending death.
My advice for people that think their location has few or no cryptids:
– Look into lesser known things. Not all Cryptozoological wonders are well known, the most interesting ones are sometimes not known outside a certain area!
– Look in your local library at old newspaper articles or ask around for local stories of âmonstersâ and âurban legendsâ. A lot of times people donât know the difference between Cryptozoology and Urban Legends and might mix them up.
– Donât dismiss some cryptids just because they are not interesting. Was there a mystery animal (ex. A hyena was spotted in Cape Cod long ago) in your area that doesnât belong there? Thatâs still a cryptid. There are still many questions to be asked about that sighting.
– Canât find much information on a lesser known creature? Dig dig dig! Thereâs probably some information out there. Sometimes there isnât. When I found out about the aforementioned hyena, there was only a single poem from the time that seemingly was mocking the event.
– Washed up dead âthingâ where you live? Thatâs still a cryptid – itâs called a Globster!
Using these things, I went from knowing about 1 Cryptozoological mystery in Massachusetts to knowing about 15.
