0009 – ā€˜Pokemon Victory Manual’ (#pokemonrewatch)

Musashi and Kojiro claim that they used to attend the private Trainer School from this episode.

The allusions to cherry blossoms reference the start of the standard Japanese school year in April when said blossoms generally begin to bloom. The bloom span of cherry blossoms is very short, usually lasting two weeks before they start falling.

cindysuke:

ā€œThe voice from the speaker, was it yours?ā€

Sakura asked Musashi.

ā€œOh, you recognize it?ā€ Musashi looked delighted.

ā€œWhere did you learn it?ā€

ā€œBy myself.ā€

ā€œYou can do that good from teaching yourself?ā€

ā€œI had to, for some reason. When I have to learn something I always do it alone… I can’t rely on anyone else.ā€ It looked as if Musashi was lost in memories.

As for being an anchorwoman, Musashi was first-class.

Once, in her late teen years, she had disguised herself as a anchorwoman of a national radio station.

The program was ā€˜Popular Pokemon Top 100’… Her job was to rank some unvalued Pokemon in the top 10 list, to keep the prices of Pokemon that Team Rocket stole high.

By the way, the fake Top 3 then were Shellder, Paras and Magnemite.

It is almost impossible that they would rank in Top 10 list ever again.

Even if the contents of the program were nonsense, nobody questioned Musashi’s voice.

Her anchoring was from a national-class professional voice.

However, we would never know how hard she practiced anchoring for the few minutes of broadcasting…

That day – Popular Pokemon Top 100 of March 3rd, a certain year – Musashi’s voice ran through the country. Not knowing that it was hers, people from the whole country heard Musashi’s voice and lost their hearts to it.

Only for the one day, even if what she was saying was an artificial flower, her voice was a real flower.

Musashi never forgets the day. Even if she seldom spoke about it, it was Musashi’s precious memory of Hinamatsuri.

This thing is not from a fanfic but the official novelization Pocket Monsters: The Animation by Takeshi Shudo. When reading the books I can see that Shudo REALLY liked Team Rocket. (Heard that he wrote scripts premising that Musashi is the protagonist)

Oh and translation is by myself so of course the grammar sucks. I’m a Korean who is translating Japanese into English so it is natural to suck a lot.

I don’t think this was Jessie’s mother she would of been on he mew mission, it might have been he he foster mother

Just the fact that they were so poor, Jessie had to eat snow. And idk, but also the fact that she sees it as a good memory is both messed up and sad??? Like if this event is happy, it shows just how much Jessie has suffered and struggled.

It also makes me wonder until how long may have Jessie been removed from this possible foster family. No way she would be allowed to stay in a place that can’t provide for her. Even more sad since she seemed to like this person, going as far as to refer to them as ā€˜mommy’.

ā€œOh, I fit in anywhere!ā€œ

She really, really wanted to fit in. She seems happy in every home she’s put in. Even when she isn’t, she acts perky and keeps trying her absolute best… it’s getting beat down over and over and over, failure after failure, that’s given her such a tough shell now, but she really did try hard. Compare to how bubbly and also gentle she tried to be in the nursing school…

[And yeah, Dogasu stated it’s not likely to be Miyamoto, but the dub had her be Jessie’s mom.]

my fav thing about this is how in the sub kojiro and nyarth are like ā€œHAVE YOU SERIOUSLY NEVER EATEN -REAL- SUSHI?ā€ and musashi is like ā€œeh? when people say ā€˜sushi’ aren’t they just shortening ā€˜snow sushi’?ā€

OW.

Yeah, there’s…there’s a lot about Musashi’s childhood she assumes is normal and that’s another realistic trait, until reality smacks her in the face like, BY THE WAY, you aren’t supposed to eat the leaves in your food on Kodomo no Hi,, your family was just dirt poor.

james-team-rocket:

Typically James XD

Why do they keep mentioning past saddness and traumas with happiness ;-;

I mean getting beat up every day must have been hard. Especially for a kid.

This is one of the things I love about them. No matter how many hardships they go through, Jessie, James, and Meowth always try their best to remain positive and be happy. Like sure, the stuff they go through does get them down at times and hurts. But no matter what they always get back up. Always working and fighting for that White Tomorrow. If that isn’t beautiful and amazing I don’t know what is.

@bringsyouwings i personally always got the impression that musashi has a really hard time empathizing with people or even sympathizing with them unless she can directly insert herself into their position, and that heavily contests with how much she dislikes appearing vulnerable for too long.

so like even if she’s been in abusive relationships (which i would say is implied), she doesn’t focus on the pain she went through, she focuses on how much stronger she was made and how she survived it! to acknowledge, even to herself, thatĀ ā€œi know what you’ve been through because I’ve been through it too,ā€ would make her feel weak and pitiful. so her head basically goes into overdrive to detach her from the situation if its not something she can play up as a testament to strength, and it gives the impression that she either a.) does not care about her friend’s trauma or b.) doesn’t even understand it.

basically, musashi avoids acknowledging any of the pain she’s been through without laughing it off/boasting her tenacity because she’s afraid of being weak, and as such it makes it super hard for her to relate to people who do dwell on their pain and who don’t have the walls and steely grit she has. and if she can’t relate, she can’t really help, because she’s… a little detached from others, all things considered. hard to not be that way when you’ve been alone for so long.

i have no idea if i explained this properly and im sure that about 80% of it is projecting butĀ

I get what you mean! She DEFINITELY doesn’t like pity and sympathy (well, unless she’s in one of her rare ā€œnobody could ever love me because I’m so mean and nasty!!ā€ misery-loves-company moods), BUT YEAH, as a general rule, she likes to try to come off strong and tough as nails because that’s what kept her alive.

I mean, even when she came to save him from the Ghost of Maiden’s Peak, she had to go on this whole rant about how she hates women who cry ove guys who left and how she’d just be like SEE YA, there’s other fish in the sea! And she’s literally firing at a ghostly apparition with a bazooka because he just saidĀ he doesn’t want to go.

Yeah, she didn’t save him out of jealousy or inability to let go, but she definitely tries to hide emotions and ā€œweakness.ā€

(And, of course, the whole Xatu scene you’re quoting on your blog right now! ^^)

It works!

between hayashibara being hayashibara and the comedic use of tears after the cloudy weather this absolutely murdered me

i still really need a translation on what kojiro says here because it kinda ****s me up that he mentions rafflesia by name

ā€œOh, that’s right! Back when I was a child, when I was paralyzed by Rafflesia [Vileplume], Jiiya [Grampy/Pop-Pop] prepared Ashire water herb [Salveyo weed] for me to drink!

Ā You know. Further confirmation that Rumika/Jessiebelle really did used to paralyze him, exactly like he said (ā€œThis is just like… the last timeā€¦ā€ in Holy Matrimony!), even as a child. I mean, I already knew, but it’s good to have confirmation.

………… but yes, I’ve never seen

Tears, After the Clear Weather/Namida, Nochi hare being used comedically/ironically. Musashi, you drama queen! (I’m just as bad. No, worse, I’ve hit walls, throwing a tantrum because ā€œit’s too hot!!! I feel awful!!!! I can’t sleep!!!!!!ā€ so………….)
